When you create your character, a player can choose between seven basic classes. The appearance of these characters can be customized. There game does not have other races, the only race you can select is humans. The class of a character dictates the amour, weapons and skills a character can use.
When fighting, players do not use just the starting character. As you level up, you get mercenaries that you can control. When you do the mandatory tutorial section when you start the game, you will get to select two mercenaries. The number of mercenaries you can control will grow to a maximum of eight. You can keep other mercenaries in special mercenary rooms.
Every characters has skills outside of their battle skills. They can pursue a wide number of crafting abilities. This means you have even more adaptability.
Atlantica Online Gold puts a strong emphasis on the use of guilds. Guilds have the ability to control various towns located on the game map. The stronger guilds have the ability to wage war on each other and found nations.
Battle in this game are turn-based. The representations of each hostile parties wander the landscape. If a player comes into physical contact with a representation, her/his party and the opposing party will find themselves transferred to a separate battlefield. They stay there until one side wins. Each side has a time limit to make their move. This ensures that there are no player griefing during combat.
Atlantica Gold has real world locations which are mixed with both mythological and fantasy elements. Countries such as China and Germany are represented because cities such as Sapporo, Munich and Moscow are cities players can visit.
These locations have climates similar to the cities which they are based. The architecture is often made up of generic recreation of well known structure types. Rome takes on a big role in the game and it resemble the ancient city of Rome. Any player who is above level twenty can instantly teleport themselves to Rome with the right percentage of Will. When you are in Rome, players can explore the Bazaar, store items and fight in PvP competitions.
Locations are based in the real world, but they can be geographically out of place. They can also be altered to make things more interesting. You have most civilizations represented, but they are in different time periods.
