Darkfall Gold is a MMORPG which was developed by Aventurine SA. It combines real time action with strategy. All of this takes place in a fantasy setting. The game has unrestricted PvP, a dynamic game world, full looting, and a player skill dependent combat system which is totally free of the any class or level systems.
Darkfall Gold departs from the use of character levels for the main way to advance your character. It is skills and the proficiency of these skills that determine a character's capabilities, including weapons, special attacks, archery, spells, ability to swim in water, craft items and ride/control mounts.
You can learn skills from NPC trainers. Certain skills, however, will require you to get other skills first. Without exception, skills are improved and become more powerful if you use them in the game.
Darkfall Gold has six playable races. Each one is divided into one of three factions. Unlike some other MMORPGs, you choice of racial does not have a heavily influence on character choices or how they progress. Each race starts the game in their homeland. They also have their own unique histories, storylines and racial enemies/alliances. You can form clans that are mixed-race with opposing factions, however the racial alignment adjustments never change.
Darkfall Gold has a character alignment system. You can be a saint or the next in line to replace the devil and everything in between. Your placement is determined by the actions of your characters. Every character starts off as being good. They become more evil by doing evil acts. This can include, but not limited to: attacking allies without any provocation or killing a racial ally. There are consquences for being evil. You can get attackable by the guard towers in the towns controlled by NPCs. Other players can attack you without suffering any repercussions. If you keep doing evil acts, you can get a negative alignment and get a permanent "kill on sight" status. The only way to become good is killing racial enemies or permanently killing other evil players.
This quotation comes from the Darkfall Gold character FAQ: "Turning evil is easy, although it doesn't make for an easy life. Killing other characters unprovoked will get you there fast and this will make guard towers, clans and other players attack you on sight. Changing your alignment towards good is a challenging and difficult process."
While playing this game, there are a few ways to move around with stealth. You can playing stealthily and make use of the same stealth techniques used in the real world. This includes moving in darkness and shadows, using camouflage, walking without making noice and using objects for cover. Thus anyone can take advantage of these methods, regardless of class or subset.
The "true stealth" feature has some semi-realistic limitations. For example, if you are wearing heavy metallic armour, it will emit clinking sounds and will reflect light. If you move slower, the volume of your footsteps decrease. The lack of "player radar" also makes this feature really useful.
